Fire Alarm System Requirements
q One complete set of construction documents:
o Signed and Sealed
o Properly scaled
o On same size pages
o Legible
o Showing fire alarm components only
o All rooms identified
o All fire rated walls, floors and ceilings identified
q Construction documents shall show:
o Symbols confirming to NFPA 170 or symbol key for non-standard symbols
o Location of devices and appliances
o Height of all pull stations and horn or horn strobe components
o End of line devices
o Conduit wire runs
o Conduit size
o Number and size of conductors
o Zone indication shall be placed adjacent to the appropriate end of line device
o Full point to point or typical point to point wiring configuration
o All initiating and notification circuits shall be identified
o Any auxiliary functions
o Total number of all alarm initiating devices and alarm indicating appliances
o Sequence of operation matrix
q Manufacturers catalog cut sheets for all devices and appliances
o All equipment be listed for commercial use
q Documentation on sealing of all penetrations
o Fire rating of walls, floors and ceilings are__________________
o Materials used meet ASTM E814 or E119
o Details on method to be used to provide fire rating of penetration
o Fire-stop systems or devices listed by UL or independent testing lab
o Approved methods attached to construction documents

The following will be checked at the time of the acceptance test
q Will sound pressure levels for audible indication devices meet the requirements of NFPA 72 and the International Building Code?
q Will visible appliances meet the requirements of NFPA 72, International Building Code and the ADA guidelines?
q Fire alarm control panel(s) and remote annunciator(s) shall visibly display the location of the alarm in alpha-numeric text
o The location of the alarm must be specific
o Provide enough information to determine source of alarm
