Highway 40 Closure
Over the calendar year 2007, the Board of Directors discussed in numerous open meetings the Highway 40 construction and its ancillary closures. Concerned citizens were also invited to an open meeting on August 20, 2007. Of concern to the District was the inevitable delay of transport time to the affected hospitals at or near the Highway 40 construction areas.
It is certain that scenarios will occur that Medical Control (physician/hospital communication to the EMS crews regarding patient condition and care) will determine when patients shall be transported to closer or more accessible medical facilities. These decisions are on a case by case basis and are controlled by urgent medical necessity required for that patient.
The District does not wish to change its transport policies. However, during the construction phases of Highway 40 it may be necessary to transport patients to closer and more accessible medical facilities rather than the patient's choice to be delivered to a medical facility affected by the closure. The District's employees will do everything possible to accommodate the patient's request. Of course, once the Highway 40 construction is completed the transport policies previously in place will be reinstated.
We invite your questions and concerns. The Board of Directors meet at least four times a month on Monday evenings. You may call (314) 837-4894 for the specific time, date and location or check on this website under Board Meetings.
