Welcome to the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District Website.

The Florissant Valley Fire Protection District provides fire and emergency ambulance service and covers an area of approximately twenty-two (22) square miles. It includes the cities of Calverton Park, part of Hazelwood, almost all of the city of Florissant and a large portion of unincorporated St. Louis County. The District protects approximately 80,000 people residing in approximately 38,000 housing units as well as all businesses in the geographic area. The Florissant Valley Fire Protection District is not governed or directly affiliated with any of the cities it protects. A three member elected Board of Directors is responsible for the overall management of the district. The Florissant Valley Fire Protection District consists of three firehouses and an Administration Building. District Map (pdf file).

H1N1 Influenza A Virus

Due to the heightened awareness of the H1N1 Influenza A Virus (a.k.a. “swine flu), emergency responders are asking people not to panic.  They say if you think you need medical attention call your doctor's office and not 911.  You should only call 911 if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Confusion
  • Severe headaches not improved by Tylenol or Ibuprofen
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest pain
  • Fainting
  • Continuous vomiting or diarrhea

If emergency responders suspect the patient has been infected with the H1N1 Influenza A Virus, then they will take precautions.  Some of these precautions may include, but are not limited to, the following:

·         Gloves

·         Gowns

·         Goggles or other eye protection

·         Masks (for both the patient and the responder)

Fire District Boundaries: There has been some confusion regarding boundries and what fire district covers what area. Black Jack fire district sent a newsletter out that said if you receive this newsletter you are in the Black Jack Fire District. This was an error as it was sent to many of our residents in the 63033 zip code. The boundary that separates Black Jack Fire District and Florissant Valley Fire District is New Halls Ferry Rd. The east side of New Halls Ferry is Black Jack and the west side of New Halls Ferry is Florissant Valley Fire District. If you have any questions regarding this, please call us.

Highway 40 Closure

Over the calendar year 2007, the Board of Directors discussed in numerous open meetings the Highway 40 construction and its ancillary closures. Concerned citizens were also invited to an open meeting on August 20, 2007. Of concern to the District was the inevitable delay of transport time to the affected hospitals at or near the Highway 40 construction areas.

It is certain that scenarios will occur that Medical Control (physician/hospital communication to the EMS crews regarding patient condition and care) will determine when patients shall be transported to closer or more accessible medical facilities. These decisions are on a case by case basis and are controlled by urgent medical necessity required for that patient.

The District does not wish to change its transport policies. However, during the construction phases of Highway 40 it may be necessary to transport patients to closer and more accessible medical facilities rather than the patient's choice to be delivered to a medical facility affected by the closure. The District's employees will do everything possible to accommodate the patient's request. Of course, once the Highway 40 construction is completed the transport policies previously in place will be reinstated.

We invite your questions and concerns. The Board of Directors meet at least four times a month on Monday evenings. You may call (314) 837-4894 for the specific time, date and location or check on this website under Board Meetings.
